Addressing Accessibility in Uptown

Westpark Dr signOne of Uptown’s most challenging issues has been mobility and traffic throughout the area. The good news is that, as never before, Uptown Houston has met these challenges head-on and has improved and is continuing to improve accessibility to, from and within the area.

Regional improvements such as the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) reconstruction of the West Loop and the Harris County Toll Road Authority's (HCTRA) new Westpark Tollway now provide commuters with more choices and more convenient ways to reach their destinations.

Uptown’s $235 million local street improvement program, which is currently underway, include:

  • Improving existing streets;
  • Creating a secondary street network;
  • Improving intersections, and;
  • Creating a pedestrian network.

The hard work of the Development Authority, TIRZ and the District has made Uptown Houston one of the most accessible and convenient locations in the city.
