Addressing Accessibility
With all of Uptown's strengths, it has also faced mobility and traffic challenges. The good news is that, as never before, Uptown Houston has met these challenges and is improving accessibility to, from and within the area. Two critical construction projects have been completed.  The reconstruction of the West Loop and the construction of the Westpark Tollway, and a $235 million Uptown Local Street Improvement Program is currently underway to improve local accessibility.

Accessibility has been and is being addressed on four fronts:

  • Regional highway improvements
  • Local street improvements
  • Pedestrian improvements
  • Transit improvements

Benefits
Regional improvements such as the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) opening of the newly reconstructed West Loop and the Harris County Toll Road Authority's (HCTRA) new Westpark Tollway are combined with local mobility improvements, providing residents, workers and visitors with "More Lanes, More Choices," making Uptown Houston one of the most accessible and convenient locations
in the city.
